Netherlands cruise into their first quarterfinal of the Euro since 2008

Tuesday's 3-0 victory over Romania in the round of 16 saw the Netherlands cruise into their first quarterfinal of the European Championship since 2008. Donyell Malen scored twice in that victory. The Dutch took the lead with an early goal from Cody Gakpo, but until seven minutes remained in Munich, the Liverpool striker set up Malen, ending their hopes of turning pressure into a vital second goal.

Romania was tenacious but outmatched; they lacked the ability to punish their opponents' carelessness before Malen scored his second goal in stoppage time. After defeating Austria, Turkey advanced to the quarterfinals, where the Oranje will face them. "Our game was well-played. I am overjoyed. We needed a response, particularly after the last game, and tonight was a positive start in the right way, according to Gakpo.
