Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles would be out of contract soon

As Jamaal Lascelles enters the last six months of his contract, Eddie Howe feels he has a long-term future at Newcastle United. The Magpies' captain made just 11 appearances last season, just five of which were starts, but has returned to the fold on a more frequent basis in recent months due to Sven Botman's absence.

Indeed, Lascelles has had his greatest season in the starting lineup in over a year and a half, appearing 20 times this season, one more than he did from February 2022 to September 2023. After joining Newcastle from Nottingham Forest, the 30-year-old is in his tenth full season with the club. Lascelles has made approximately 250 appearances for the club, the vast majority of which have been as captain. Lascelles' contract runs out this summer, but Howe wants him to stay.
