Nigeria have no money to sack Jose Peseiro as head coach

Just over a year and 13 matches after taking over as Nigeria coach, Jose Peseiro has failed to convince anyone. After a disastrous start to the qualifying campaign for the 2026 World Cup, with two draws against Lesotho (1-1) and Zimbabwe (1-1), the Federation wanted to sack him.

"If we had the money, we will be willing to relieve him of his job, we're not happy. Everybody is asking for the sack of the head coach. It's unfortunate that from a possible six points we only have two points. We're in a very precarious situation," NFF member Essien told reporters.

Despite the absence of the injured Victor Osimhen, Nigeria were favourites in both of November's defeats and could already be four points behind leaders South Africa. The 63-year-old coach Jose Peseiro, has a mixed record of 6 wins, 1 draw and 6 defeats since his arrival.
