Rayo Vallecano defeated Deportivo Alaves 2-0 at home after suffering back-to-back league defeats. Isi Palazon converted a penalty two minutes before halftime to put Vallecano ahead, later new summer signing Jorge de Frutos clinched the victory in the 82nd minute with a counterattack goal. Alvaro Garcia was instrumental in both goals. The winger was fouled in the area, resulting in Isi's penalty kick, and then assisted on de Frutos' second goal.
Francisco Rodriguez took over as coach of Rayo, after their previous coach Andoni Iraola left for Bournemouth in the off-season.
