Real Madrid defeats Real Betis, Kylian Mbappe scores twice

Kylian Mbappe scored the first league goal for Real Madrid in a crucial 2-0 La Liga victory over Real Betis as the team went into the international break with a winning record. With two victories and two draws so far in 2024–25, Los Blancos carry an unblemished record even though they are now four points behind league leaders Barcelona.

In the midst of intense attention on the France captain, Mbappe's involvement eases some of the strain as the team struggles to find their footing in the first few weeks of the league season. For the first time in his career, Mbappe turned the tide in the Spanish capital late in the game after failing to score in the first three league games of the season. First, Mbappe wisely responded to stab home Federico Valverde's superb flick. After the shackles were taken off, Mbappe scored the second goal from the penalty spot to give the home team the win.
