Real Sociedad’s push for European qualification took a hit as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Athletic Bilbao in a cagey Basque derby at the Reale Arena, extending their winless LaLiga run to four games. Both sides struggled to create clear chances in a first half that lacked intensity, with just one shot on target — a tame header from Martín Zubimendi.
Sociedad’s Mikel Oyarzabal and Sergio Gómez volleyed over from decent positions, while Gorka Guruzeta saw his strike blocked at the other end. After the break, Takefusa Kubo tested Unai Simón, and Álex Remiro denied Álex Berenguer from distance. Simón was again alert to deny Brais Méndez’s header following a corner. Athletic, still reeling from a UEL semi-final loss, held firm as both sides ultimately settled for a point in a result that did little to help Sociedad’s European ambitions.
