West Ham United have shown interest in 25-year-old Colombian midfielder Richard Rios, currently impressing at Palmeiras. However, according to Corriere della Sera via Sport Witness, Rios has rejected West Ham’s approach, favouring a move to Serie A side AS Roma instead. Roma’s stature and need for midfield reinforcements appear to have swayed the Colombian international, who is reportedly keen on joining one of Italy’s top clubs.
West Ham, coming off a disappointing 2024/25 Premier League season that saw them finish in the bottom half, may be struggling to attract top-level talent. Rios could have added much-needed creativity and energy to their midfield. Despite the setback, the Hammers still have the financial strength to make a better offer, and may attempt to outbid Roma. Whether Rios reconsiders his decision remains to be seen if West Ham step up their interest with an improved proposal.
