McAtee has been playing for League One team Barnsley on loan from Kenilworth Road throughout the 2023–24 season in an attempt to get consistent first-team playing time. In 39 games in the third division, McAtee has shown promise for the Tykes, tallying 12 goals and dishing out four assists as the Oakwell team vies for promotion.
