Simeone praises Diego Alves' penalty saves

Playing like this, Atletico Madrid won't really have any rivals but they have to maintain this level for the rest of the season. The Colchoneros completely dominated Valencia at Mestalla this Sunday despite goalkeeper Diego Alves' incredible performance. The Brazilian goalie saved two penalties, one against Antoine Griezmann and another one against Gabi. However, that didn't stop Atletico from getting three points at Mestalla with goals scored by Griezmann and Gameiro on order to reach Real Madrid at the top.

Diego Simeone spoke about Alves' saves: "I think Diego Alves' first penalty save was wonderful, and he deserves credit. I want to congratulate the goalkeeper because if Valencia had managed to get a draw then it would have been 90% because of him. It isn't easy to play at this stadium, especially with Valencia coming into this match after two wins and full of enthusiasm. The penalties motivated them even more, but our players are incredible. We showed constant and unstoppable effort."

The Atletico boss also spoke about Valencia's new manager Cesare Prandelli, who he expects can elevate La Liga's level: "I got the players together and I told them that our strength is our teamwork. I have seen that as a coach he has good ideas and that he comes to the club eager to get to work. I wish Prandelli and Valencia the best of luck."
