Spurs captain Romero signs new four-year deal to extend stay

Tottenham Hotspur have announced that captain Cristian Romero has signed a new four-year contract, keeping him at the club until 2029. The 27-year-old Argentina centre-back joined Spurs from Atalanta in 2021 and has since made 126 appearances, scoring eight goals.

Romero led Tottenham to Europa League glory last season, captaining the side in their final against Manchester United to end a 17-year trophy drought.

Despite summer transfer links with Atletico Madrid, Romero’s decision to extend his stay comes shortly after being appointed club captain by head coach Thomas Frank.

Romero expressed his contentment, declaring himself "very happy" at Spurs and optimistic about another successful campaign. "We want to win. Maybe why not win again this season? Another trophy with the club is important for everyone," he said.
