Thiago Motta began a number of NextGen squad members as well as two recent additions, Michele Di Gregorio and Khephren Thuram. In the second half, Juan Cabal, another new summer addition, filled the position of center back. All of the players who have been training with Thiago Motta from the beginning of the preseason were included in the starting lineup; hence, players like Dusan Vlahovic, who had returned from vacation following the Euros, were originally benched.
