Francesco Totti is already an AS Roma symbol and an Italian football legend, but he doesn't want to retire until he gets to surpass historic striker Silvio Piola as the all-time top scorer in Serie A. The forward had already confirmed that he would retire at the end of the current season, but playing time during the current tournament has given him a whole new motivation that has gotten him pumped up for reaching that historic goal-scoring record.
Believe it or not, Francesco Totti who is already 40 years of age, is still playing like he was 30 and still going strong. He may become the oldest player who reaches a record like that one, but he is still a long way behind Piola. At this rate, he would have to play at least three more seasons in order to reach that record. He is still 24 goals shy of Silvio Piola's 274 goals, but this may be the biggest challenge of his career and he won't just walk away from it.
Talking to Sky this Saturday, Totti said: "Why stop? Nothing is obvious in football. I was taken for finished last year, something that happens a lot in this line of work, especially when things aren't going the right way. Everyone is free to say what they think though. I have faith in my head and my body, I can still give a lot and if I'm feeling good then why stop?"
