Tours FC removed from French football map

Their liquidation has been confirmed by the French Football Federation, with the governing body proceeding to remove the club’s teams from all of the leagues in which they were competing.

The Men’s team, at the time of their removal, had been top of the R1, the fifth tier of French football. Their last two games had been postponed amid the uncertainty surrounding Tours’ future. There is no longer any doubt. With a financial hole worth a reported €600,000, the club have now gone out of business and have been removed from the league. Tours had hoped to provide financial guarantees in order to retain their status, however, they have failed to do so.

Tours had been in Ligue 2 as recently as the 2017/18 season. Former players include the likes of Olivier Giroud, Medhi Benatia, and Laurent Koscielny.
