The Dutch full-back was strongly linked with a move to Benfica last week as the Portuguese giants wanted Malacia on a six-month loan deal, as incorrectly reported by Fabrizio Romano.
Voetbal International, however, reports that the youngster's move to Portugal has collapsed after Manchester United failed to reach an agreement with the club. He will instead head back to his homeland, joining PSV Eindhoven on a short-term loan deal, although the Dutch club have an option to buy. PSV have agreed to cover the player's full salary until the end of the season. A €10 million (£8m) buy option has been included but it is not mandatory. The Red Devils also has a 30 per cent sell-on clause included in the deal.
The Netherlands international has endured a nightmare time at Old Trafford since moving from Feyenoord in 2022. The defender has been plagued by physical issues and missed all of last season through injury.
