Chicago's Soldier Field was the venue for the first match of Group C in this Copa America Centenario, Jamaica was facing the National Team of Venezuela. The Reggae Boys had many reasons to feel pumped up after they were able to reach the last Copa Oro final back in 2015, when they eliminated the United States in the semifinals as the huge surprise of the tournament. This positive result came, after their performance in the Copa America 2015 in Chile.
Back then, the Jamaica National Team left the tournament during the Group stage but they proved to be an uncomfortable rival, that's why many expected them to leave behind that fame of being a dirty team that committed too many violent fouls. Their improvement has been proven several times, today it was evident that they are far from that team of 2015. La Vinotinto ceased this weak moment and took advantage on the first half through Martinez.
The striker took an assist from Salomon Rondon on the 15th minute and scored the first goal of the day in this Copa America, a good omen for the upcoming match between Mexico and Uruguay. On the 23rd minute, Rodolph Austin did one of the nastiest challenges you'll ever see on Tomas Rincon, the Jamaican was immediately sent off. The first half ended with Jamaica having one less men, but they weren't about to surrender with this. Their manager Winfried Schafer was sent-off for a heated argument with the referee.
During the second half, the one man advantage didn't even notice after Jamaica raised their stakes and started playing much closer to Venezuela's box. Unfortunately, their chances were just mild scares as they were destined to lose this first Copa America match against La Vinotinto. The first three points go to Venezuela against a high spirited Jamaica, but nothing more than that.
