Villarreal are set to secure the signing of Chelsea defender Renato Veiga in a deal worth around €30 million, sources have told ESPN. The 22-year-old joined Chelsea just last summer from Basel for €14m but struggled for minutes, making only one Premier League start before spending the second half of the season on loan at Juventus.
The agreement with Villarreal includes an initial €25m fee plus €5m in add-ons, along with a sell-on clause for Chelsea. Veiga will become the Blues’ 11th departure of a busy transfer window, as the club continues its squad overhaul. During his time at Stamford Bridge, Veiga made 18 appearances across competitions, scoring twice in Conference League matches against Gent and Astana. He was also on the bench when Portugal defeated Spain in the Nations League Final in June.
