On Monday, Villarreal defeated Mallorca 4-0 in the Spanish league thanks to four goals in an eight-minute stretch halfway through the first half. After 19 minutes, Alejandro Baena took over as Villarreal punished the visitors with an exciting display of counterattacking football after Logan Costa headed in from a corner kick to give the home team a 1-0 lead.
After 23 minutes, Baena started and completed a brief break to score the second goal. Two minutes later, he assisted Dani Parejo in scoring the third. After 27 minutes, Yeremy Pino scored a half-volley from Sergi Cardona's left-wing cross to end any doubt about the outcome of the match. In contrast, the second half was somewhat dull as Villarreal comfortably won, cutting the difference between them and Athletic Bilbao, who are now in fourth place, to six points.
