David de Gea, the former Manchester United goalkeeper, has completed a transfer to Italian club Fiorentina on a free transfer. De Gea's 12-year tenure at Old Trafford ended last summer when his contract expired, following a period of uncertainty and negotiations over an extension. The decision to part ways was divisive among United fans: while some wanted De Gea to stay, others felt the club needed a change due to concerns about his distribution and playing out from the back.
After leaving United, De Gea was approached by clubs in Saudi Arabia but opted to remain in Europe. Throughout the 2023/24 season, he remained a free agent and trained at Moss Lane with non-league Altrincham. His hiatus from competitive football is now over, as he joins Fiorentina on a one-year contract, with an option for an additional year, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his career.
