Back when Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho was the Real Madrid coach, he had a small group of players who are always faithful to his teachings and his ways. Among those players we had Alvaro Arbeloa and Xabi Alonso. The still Real Madrid full-back announced his retirement from Real Madrid which will happen at the end of the season, he was honored by the fans and the club last Sunday at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium after the match against Valencia.
His relationship with Mourinho transcended the club, they formed a friendship that remains to this day, when ever Mourinho was attacked by the press Arbeloa defended him. He even got into heated arguments with other players inside the club when Mourinho had disagreements with them, for Arbeloa Mourinho has always been right despite all the backlash he gets from the press and the fans.
To this faithful following, Jose Mourinho has responded with a beautiful letter dedicated to Arbeloa, he wrote it on Marca and it reads as follows:
‘Arbeloa is a friend, not just a player for me. How does a player become a friend?
‘By becoming an example of passion for his profession of love for his club, of dedication to a working group and its objectives, humility and honour in the relationship with all those who work with him every day.
‘In the history of our huge club it will have many of the best players in the world.
‘Arbeloa does not have that profile, but he is certainly one of those who has given Real Madrid, its fans, all his coaches and his team-mates all he had and what had not.
‘Arbeloa I have only words of thanks. In my 16 years of coaching I have, surely, on the podium of the most important players with whom I have worked. A good player and an exceptional man.’
