Kylian Mbappe scored twice as Real Madrid defeated Real Sociedad 2-0 to wrap off their La Liga season, giving manager Carlo Ancelotti and midfielder Luka Modric a victory in their final match at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. Although Real Madrid had little left to play for after surrendering the La Liga title to rivals Barcelona, the atmosphere at the Bernabeu was emotionally heated as home fans focused on paying a proper farewell to their departing great.
Before Madrid was given a penalty in the 37th minute after a VAR assessment verified Pablo Marin's handball, Mbappe kept Sociedad's defense busy with many tries at goal during the action-packed first forty-five minutes. Mbappe's weak shot from the penalty spot was easily blocked by goalie Unai Marrero, but the Frenchman promptly scored his 30th league goal by slamming home the rebound. In the second half, Ancelotti substituted Vinicius Jr., a Brazilian who created Real Madrid's second goal with a lovely through pass that Mbappe turned in from a close angle.
