Oldest player in the world enters the field

Kazuyoshi Miura returned to the pitch on Sunday to beat his own record, in the 1-0 triumph won by 'his' Suzuka Point Getters, from the fourth tier of Japanese football, over Criacao Shinjuku.

The forward entered the field after 76 minutes of the match that marked the inauguration of the renovated Estádio Nacional, aged 55 years and 225 days.

The Japanese international, whose club plays in the fourth tier of football in the country, received a tremendous ovation from the 16,218 fans who were on the bench, and even came close to scoring.

"I'm grateful that I played in the best possible atmosphere, and I feel proud (...). I wanted this game to be part of the story I'm writing," he said, quoted by the Japan Times.
