Brazil defend historic World Cup appearance record

Brazil travel to the United States, Mexico and Canada as the nation with the most matches played in World Cup history, standing at 114 appearances. Their dominance reflects decades of excellence, from Pelé to Ronaldinho, Ronaldo and Neymar, and five titles that remain unmatched. Yet Germany, only two games behind on 112, could surpass them if they enjoy a deep run and Brazil exit early.

Argentina sit comfortably in third place with 88 appearances, while Italy remain fourth on 83 despite missing their third consecutive World Cup. England follow with 74 matches and could reach 82 with a run to the final, still one short of Italy. France, currently on 73, also have no path to breaking into the top four even with a July final.

The standings underline Brazil’s enduring presence on football’s biggest stage, but this edition could reshape the historical hierarchy depending on how far Germany advance.
