Arsenal has reached a verbal agreement with Crystal Palace for the signing of Eberechi Eze. The deal will be closed for a guaranteed £60 million, plus £7.5 million in variables linked to sporting objectives.
The north London club managed to get ahead of Tottenham Hotspur, which was considered the favourite in the negotiations until just 24 hours ago. Sources close to the deal said Arsenal accelerated the agreement after Kai Havertz's injury, which forced them to seek immediate reinforcements in attack.
The player's final decision also tipped the balance, as Eze showed a preference for joining the Gunners' project rather than moving to Spurs. There is some frustration within Tottenham, as the club believed it had reached an advanced understanding with Palace and the player himself.
