There has been "progress" in negotiations for a long-awaited new contract to keep him at Anfield, according to Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk. Like teammates Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah, the 33-year-old's contract expires this summer, but he has hinted that a resolution to his future may be imminent. Van Dijk responded to a question about whether the talks had advanced following Sunday's 3-2 Premier League loss to Fulham by saying, "There is progress, yeah."
Pushed on what that meant, the Netherlands international added: "Listen, these are internal discussions and we'll see. "I love the club, I love the fans and they were there for us again [at Fulham]. We wanted to reward them, but I ask them to be there again on Sunday and make the stadium an amazing venue like always for us."
