If rumours are to be accepted, Barcelona persuaded Nico Williams to join the team this summer by quickly paying Joan Garcia's release clause from Espanyol. The ramifications of fulfilling those two release clauses, which together total €73 million, are still unclear, though. La Liga counterpart Javier Tebas has promised that Barcelona will have to sell players in order to register Williams, despite President Joan Laporta's objections. The common consensus is that sales are necessary in order to accomplish this, and the Director of Football Deco is facing the prospect of a high-profile sale of players they would want to retain.
Ronald Araujo is one of the names that is often brought up. Juventus attempted to take advantage of the Uruguayan's dissatisfaction with his contract circumstances by making a lowball bid during the January transfer window. However, Araujo signed a new contract till 2031, his release clause reduced to €65–70 million in the first few days of July.
