The United States of America woke up, they needed a wake up call afterthe painful defeat of the Copa America opener. Jurgen Klinsmann's boys wanted a quick and swift response, they needed skipper Clint Dempsey and he appeared at the most crucial moment of the tournament for them. They started a beautiful afternoon in Chicago with a penalty kick awarded in their favor, after slippery Bobby Wood was taken down inside the field. Skipper Dempsey got his chance and didn't waste it from the spot, he scored his 50th goal with the US on the 8th minute of the first half.
Dempsey continued his personal show against his own crowd at Chicago Soldier field, with an assist to Jermaine Jones who scored an absolute screamer from outside the field for the USMNT's second goal of the day on the 37th minute of the first half. But this particular party wasn't going to end soon for Costa Rica, Dempsey got his second assist of the night as he found Wood with his back to the goal. The youngster turned around and sent a low shot past the keeper for the USMNT's third goal before half time.
The second half was more an anecdote than a football game all on itself, the Costa Rica national team attempted to pull one back and controlled the second half for the better part of it, the problem was that the ball just wouldn't go in. The United States defensive line worked frankly well, but good luck was on their side apart from all the supporters who have slowly become some of the most lively fans in the world. Just three minutes from the final whistle, goalkeeper Pemberton gave away the ball with no advantage to Graham Zusi who didn't waste the gift and scored the USA's fourth goal. The American's are back in the Copa America contention.
