Allardyce could call John Terry back to action

Just a year ago, John Terry wasn't sure if he would continue his career at Chelsea. A year later he has returned with a bang to the highest level of competition with Antonio Conte's trust in him and now, Sam Allardyce. Big Sam confirmed he is keen on calling Terry back to the Three Lions if he is performing at a top level with the Blues under the Italian manager. The national team manager thinks England needs a proper skipper in the back.

This is what Big Sam said when asked about solutions to the defense problem with England: "Maybe so. I think it depends on what John said. Maybe if I get the opportunity I might have to give him a ring, but until I come to that selection or that process, we'll wait and see. I don't know what the political side of that might mean, if there is a political side. I'll have to have that conversation if I feel that John Terry may be a possibility."

Allardyce didn't' rule out calling Jermain Defoe either: "He is someone I could look at, but that depends on the form of all the other lads who are up there. There's [Daniel] Sturridge, [Jamie] Vardy, Harry Kane. Wayne Rooney can still play up front if you wanted him to. Jermain Defoe is not out of the question, I won't say that, but whether I do that or not will depend on which other players are available. It might be Jermain Defoe on Sunday night because others have got injured, who knows? He would love to come – because he's already told me!"

Allardyce also spoke about Marcus Rashford's chances of returning to play with England: "It makes it harder for me now to select him, despite how exciting he was last year and how he burst on the scene. At such a young age, do I say: 'Go play in the Under-21s? Get used to international football there, play regularly there and it will help you eventually, hopefully break into the Manchester United team and then break into the England senior team.' You've got all those scenarios to consider."
