Almeria holds back Atletico Madrid

On Saturday, Almeria, the worst team, twice overcame a deficit to hold Atletico Madrid to a 2-2 draw. After 26 games this season, the draw left the hosts without a victory. After losing 1-0 against Inter Milan in the first leg of the Champions League last 16 midweek, Atletico now sits fourth, ten points behind leaders Real Madrid.

After Luka Romero, an AC Milan loanee, tied the score for Almeria just before the half-hour mark, Angel Correa gave Diego Simeone's team the lead in the second minute. After a brilliant one-two with Jonathan Viera, Romero gave the home team a well-deserved draw shortly after Rodrigo de Paul had given Atletico their lead back on 57 minutes. As a result of the outcome, Atletico is now well-positioned in the Champions League race, with fifth-place foe Athletic Club behind them by just three points.
