Austria successfully clinched direct qualification for World Cup

The final Group H match was a high-stakes affair, with the hosts needing only a point to secure their spot, while Bosnia required an outright victory.

The match lived up to its billing, marked by disciplined defence from both sides. After Bosnia's goal and lead, Austria broke the deadlock through striker Michael Gregoritsch, whose timely goal put the home side ahead and firmly in the driving seat for qualification. Bosnia fought back admirably, knowing their World Cup dream was fading, and managed to level the score.

However, the equalizing goal was not enough to overhaul Austria’s lead in the group standings. The final whistle confirmed a hard-earned draw for Ralf Rangnick's team, sparking celebrations as Austria secured their place at the World Cup finals. Bosnia and Herzegovina, despite a strong campaign, now face the challenge of the play-offs.
