After Marc Bartra's buy out clause was lowered from €40 million to €8 million it was only a matter of time before a club in Europe would make a bid for his services. The Catalan player finally received the news this Friday, that German club Borussia Dortmund was the club that will buy his transfer card and have his services for the upcoming season in the Bundesliga. Bartra arrives at a crucial moment for Dortmund, because the Germans needed a suitable replacement for Mats Hummels who just left to play for Bayern Munich.
Bartra had struggled in the past couple of seasons to get settled in the starting eleven, since other key players like Jeremy Mathieu and Javier Mascherano were the ones playing the other spot next to Gerard Pique. Now that Bartra is leaving, the Catalan club needs to buy a new player in that position. The names of players like Marquinhos and Thiago Silva from PSG, as well as Laporte from Athletic Club, are the ones best positioned to take Bartra's spot.
The club issued a statement on their website: "FC Barcelona announces that the German club Borussia Dortmund has made official its willingness to execute the contract clause for Marc Bartra, according to which the club is obliged to facilitate the transfer of the footballer worth €8million. FC Barcelona wishes good luck to Marc Bartra in this new stage as a player and invite him to say goodbye to the fans at the beginning of next season."
