Beckham asks Rooney to ignore Shearer's criticism

This Sunday at Slovakia, Wayne Rooney proved he is still a world-class player who can lead England to the World Cup without a problem. With this match he played, Rooney became the on-field player with the most caps in English football's history. But for some naysayers, Wayne Rooney should leave room to newcomers who are also performing at a really high level. People like Alan Shearer believe that in order to perform at a high level with his club, Rooney needs to leave the Three Lions.

Talking as a pundit for TV, Shearer said: "This is a Manchester United squad of real depth and power and Rooney needs to be producing at the highest level to make sure he stays in it. It is time for Rooney to be selfish and start thinking just about himself. And that, I really regret to say, means his retirement from international football."

But this statement was something that David Beckham didn't take too well, the former United player responded to Shearer with an Instagram post: "So tonight Wayne becomes England's most capped outfield player. I keep listening to people say Wayne should stop playing for his country to prolong his club career. Wayne should retire from playing for his country? Seriously?

"As a player you retire when you're ready. Representing you're country is the highest level you can reach as a professional player, walking out in an England shirt at Wembley is one of the greatest feelings as a player you can ever have. Don't let anyone take that away from you. Every kid around the world that loves this game dreams of walking out in the national team colors and representing the country they love. Continue till you can't give anymore. Congratulations mate."
