In professional football, there are two types of players: the ones who love training and the ones who don't. Most of them have a god given talent but there is a large number of players who actually don't like football due to all the hard work they have to put into it, they do it because it's a talent they were born with. For Brazilian Ronaldo, training every day was an excruciating experience he didn't enjoy one bit. He even blames all the injuries he suffered on all the practice he made when he played ball.
Talking next to Roberto Carlos who still trains every day, Ronaldo said: "In the first ten years of my career I trained very badly in the sense that both clubs used the wrong methods. Many times I had to run like Roberto Carlos and Cafu and I simply couldn’t. I picked up many injuries because of these methods and missed a lot of matches. Technology was not so advanced then and in some cases, even the physiotherapists were unable to figure out a cure. Football was my life however and I always wanted to get back on the field as soon as possible."
Then he told a story of when Arrigo Sacchi trained him: “I arrived late to training twice in the same week when I was at Real Madrid. The first time, Sacchi gave me a lecture for 15 minutes then fined me. The second time before he even opened his mouth I said a lecture or a fine. Capello? He was a little more relaxed about it, I don’t consider him among the finest coaches I have played under. I don't miss training sessions. I didn't like them and mostly didn't train too well. I was once fined twice in the same week for being late for afternoon training- the first time I argued, the second time I just paid."
Then he spoke about who he thinks is the best player in the world right now: "Ronaldo, Messi and Neymar are all great players - and I would include Suarez in that list as well. We often forget that they are all great players when we are talking about who is the best. It is very hard to say who is the best. I am going to say Cristiano, because he plays for Madrid. But we cannot ignore how good the others are. We have to respect them."
