Just an hour before Manchester City's first Premier League started under Pep Guardiola's new management, Argentine goalkeeper Willy Caballero was in awe after realizing he was starting the match against Sunderland. The Catalan manager had already sent Joe Hart a warning, he didn't like the preparation and physical condition of the Englishman and decisions were going to be made. Pep doesn't hesitate when it comes to taking his pick.
The Citizens struggled to get a victory against a complicated Sunderland, but at the end, they won with an own goal scored by Patrick McNair after a cross from the right. At the start of the match, Sergio Aguero scored from the spot thanks to a penalty called on Raheem Sterling, but Defoe got the equalizer late in the second half. However, the real news from this match was Joe Hart getting benched. After the game, Caballero spoke to BT Sport about Guardiola's decision.
He said: "It was a surprise for me. I was training very well during the pre-season to have this opportunity. I tried to enjoy it today. Fortunately, we started very well with three points. It is better to improve and make a correction when we win. For sure, this is a new country, a new club for the boss but the ideas and the way to play - we know a lot how he wants to play but it is difficult because we are trying together with the whole squad for only two weeks. This is the best way to start and we have a lot of days to keep improving."
