Cameroon Football Federation president Samuel Eto'o has been suspended for four matches and fined $20,000 by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for misconduct during Cameroon's 2-0 Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final loss to Morocco.
The disciplinary board found Eto'o, 44, guilty of "violating the principles of sportsmanship" after he protested refereeing decisions in the closing stages of the match.
Footage from broadcasts shows the former striker gesturing emphatically towards officials in a heated exchange.
The Cameroonian Football Federation expressed its displeasure with the decision, stating it "lacks any explicit justification" and reaffirmed its "unwavering support" for Eto'o. They described the punishment as excessive and pledged to back their president.
The incident has sparked debate across African football over the conduct of officials and the treatment of team officials during high-stakes tournaments.
