Capello reveals his coaching methods with Ibrahimovic

There was a short period of time between Zlatan Ibrahimovic's time at Juventus and Inter, when he made a massive improvement on his finishing. Back during his Ajax days, he already proved to have an outstanding quality and dribbling skill, but his finishing needed some work and he got it through Italian boss Fabio Capello who saw him and immediately put him to work. The similarities now that Capello has mentioned it are striking, Marco Van Basten is arguably the most acrobatic striker in history.

But then along came good old Zlatan to change the game, Capello had him for a year in Juventus and immediately ordered him to watch hours of material of the Dutch Swan taking on defenders and finishing with his raw talent. Zlatan understood this quickly and the results were incredible, the rest is history as we started looking at some of the most impressive goals ever scored in history, and they all came from Zlatan.

Talking to Premium Sport, Capello revealed that: "Ibrahimovic had a stunning technique. When I moved to Juventus, I immediately asked the club to sign him. I wanted to bring him to Roma in the previous campaign, but we had already [Francesco] Totti, [Antonio] Cassano, [Gabriel] Batistuta, [Vincenzo] Montella and [Marco] Delvecchio. At the beginning of his first spell at Juventus, however, I noticed that he was weaker than I thought when he had to kick the ball and was not very strong in the air.

"Ibrahimovic loved making assists more than scoring goals. I wanted him to become more ruthless in front of goal and improve his finishing. He had the same technical skills as Van Basten and I made him watch some videos of him to improve his finishing. I told him to watch Van Basten's movements inside the area and the way he used to score goals. Ibra got it straight away; I think results are out there to prove it. He is a very humble guy and he worked every day to improve He’s proud of himself too, he loves being the best."
