The Mexican National team attracted over 80,000 fans to the Pasadena Rose Bowl for the second match in Group C of this Copa America Centenario. If they won their match they would complete Uruguay's elimination from the tournament for good, they didn't start as well as everybody believed they would. During the first half they really struggled against a very well organized Jamaica who were invested in creating chances to defeat the Mexicans and get back on the fight to reach the quarter finals.
However, this Mexican team is currently running with luck, they didn't need to play well in order to get the needed goal which would give them some peace of mind. Early on the 16 minute, the three players on the attack connected to get the first goal, first Raul Jimenez sent a pass to Corona all the way to the other side of the field. After that, Corona saw Chicharito on the box and gave him an exact cross to his head for Mexico's first goal. Hernandez's header was completely out of reach to the far post of the keeper. Half time whistle was probably the best thing that could happen to Mexico, they needed to regroup and think over a different strategy.
On the second half, Osorio's modifications worked instantly, Mexico started dominating the game and creating more chances from both wings. On the left side you had Jesus Tecatito Corona sending crosses, on the right side Layun was the one sending a lot of dangerous balls. But the second goal still needed to come, Chicharito was one goal away from Jared Borgetti's 46 goals in the all time scoring table for Mexico. Everybody was working to help Hernandez reach that milestone.
But Chicharito's goal wasn't going to come because he left the field to give Oribe Peralta a chance to give Mexico a goal that gave them some peace of mind. It took him a minute to respond, Peralta finished a play that youngster Hirving Lozano started and combined with Hector Herrera. The Porto midfielder just left the ball for Peralta to strike with a crossed shot to the far low post off the goalkeeper. This result was more than enough for Mexico to get them the first place of Group C, they also confirmed both Uruguay and Jamaica's elimination from the tournament. Osorio's team are still going for the title.
