Clemente backs Pique after decision

In Spain, a country that will forever be divided by different political beliefs and agendas, having a man who isn't afraid to speak his mind can be a double-edged sword. For Gerard Pique who has never been scared of being straight forward, speaking his mind has finally broken him. In his constant search for the Spain fans' approval, Gerard Pique apparently forgot how divisive some fans or journalists can be. But this past Sunday he remembered.

After his decision to leave the national team after the next World Cup was made public, the player started receiving many signs of support from different places in the country. Most of the fans agree that him leaving was the best decision, but their reasons for agreeing with Pique are different. Some already wanted him out, they feel like they finally got what they wanted. Others are outraged for the hate sent in Gerard's way, those agree with his decision but are not happy because of how it could affect the national team.

One of the people who support Pique, is former Spain manager Javier Clemente, who spoke to Mundo Deportivo and said: "Pique is a man who says things others might not because he is brave. He is a player who says what he feels and I think that is very honest and sincere, and sometimes he is sincere because it [what he has to say] hurts. If Pique says he leaves the team because he has critics – although he says only a few, I think there have been many – and that he was tired of them, it is better to leave the team and I will praise him for his sincerity."
