He was the man who scored the winning penalty for Germany against the Italian side during the Euros, one of the most pleasant surprises for Joachim Low's team that is generating a lot of headlines during this transfer window. Jonas Hector is suddenly appearing on the agenda of many big clubs in Europe according to the press, but so far there hasn't been any concrete offers to snatch him from Bundesliga side Cologne.
In recent days, the Spanish press had reported that FC Barcelona was the most interested side in the player's services because of his wide range as a defender. Hector doesn't only play both sides as a full-back, he also has the props and talent to do a decent job as a centre-back as well. Hector is only 26 years of age, he is about to enter the best years of any professional footballer. But Cologne's sporting director has denied any offers from any club.
Cologne sporting director Jorg Schmadtke told Kicker that: "There has not been any direct contact with Barcelona over Hector. I cannot say €18 million is not enough for him, because I never received such an offer. I have not spoken with anyone at Barcelona. I know that Barcelona were interested in Hector, but there is nothing more to it. His agent told me there was some interest. I told him to speak with Barca and return when things got more concrete. He never returned to me."
