Conte reveals he denied Costa getting subbed

Antonio Conte is a natural born leader, he proves this every single day in the training grounds as the players do exactly as he says. For Chelsea, a victory against Leicester City this Saturday was crucial in their aspirations to get back on a positive dynamic with all that comes ahead, they finally got back to a winning form with a convincing 3-0 victory with goals by Diego Costa, Eden Hazard and Victor Moses.

The Brazilian was especially on point throughout the match, but as usual with him, things get a little heated between him and the players who get to cover him. As a test of his capability to control himself, Antonio Conte decided to leave him on the field despite Costa's constant requests and glances to the bench. It was a perfect test for him right before the crucial match against Manchester Unite next week, Conte risked losing Costa but decided to trust his player to not get booked and he didn't. It was a miracle.

Conte talked about Diego Costa's constant yelling to the bench, the boss confessed that: “I decided. Always I take the responsibility in every situation, in positive or negative situations. It’s always my decision whether or not a player is substituted. If I can, I keep Costa until the end of the game. He is an important player for us. He has a good personality and transfers his passion, and we need that passion in every moment of the game.

“I know I risked it because, if Costa took another yellow card, he would miss the next game. I know I risked it because, if Costa took another yellow card, he would miss the next game. But, I repeat, Costa’s passion is important for the team. He must transfer this in every game and in every single minute of the game.”
