Copa America Centenario: Mexico vs Jamaica preview

Pasadena California's Rose Bowl will be the stage for Mexico to keep enlarging their legend for this Copa America Centenario. They already passed their first major test against Uruguay with flying colors after winning 3-1, but they need to stay strong and win their second match against the always dangerous Jamaica. And we say dangerous because of the rough game they play, nasty tackles and unnecessary roughness they tend to apply against stronger teams.

Colombian manager Juan Carlos Osorio is arguably the best manager Mexico has had in the last 10 years, since Ricardo La Volpe managed the team they didn't look as powerful as they do today. The coach hasn't been defeated yet and they just allowed their first goal during the last match against Uruguay. All these factors have Mexico as one of the clear favorites to lift the trophy this season, but just how favorite is Mexico really?

Well, to answer that we have to look at the other possible title contenders, Argentina, Colombia and perhaps the United States. Granted that it's only been a game played for this Copa America, Mexico is the only National Team from the American Continent with a 20 match unbeaten streak. This is also one of the best streaks in the world, so this is more than enough to call Mexico favorites to win this tournament. As for skipper Andres Guardado's absence due to the red card he saw against Uruguay, it's expected that either youngster Hirving Lozano or Carlos Peña will take his place against Jamaica.

Porto left back Miguel Layun, expects a very different test against Jamaica: "I think we have to be aware that Jamaica has different characteristics than Uruguay and they'll try to take advantage of that. If we keep up this intensity, with this way of approaching matches that we're showing now, I think we've got the chance to put in a good match. I think they come with a vision to get to the next round. Nobody's thinking about what happened in Gold Cup or tournaments before that."

Possible lineups:

Mexico starting lineup (3-1-2-2-2 formation): Talavera; Araujo, Marquez, Moreno; Reyes; Layun, Corona; Herrera, Pena; Peralta, Hernandez.

Jamaica starting lineup (4-4-2 formation): Blake; Watson, Mariappa, Taylor, Lawrence; McCleary, Grant, Hector, McAnuff; Barnes, Donaldson.
