Del Bosque thinks Guardiola should manage Spain

We know that Vicente del Bosque might have said this without thinking about the repercussions of his words, but the most logical option to replace the former manager in his eyes is only one man. Although Pep Guardiola has already started working in his new club, for Del Bosque he is the best choice possible out of every manager who was born in the country called Spain. But this statement has a huge political baggage that he didn't consider.

The small problem is that Pep Guardiola is rooting for Catalonia to become independent, and there is a lot of Spanish people who would have a huge problem if Guardiola took on the role as head coach. There isn't even a certainty that Guardiola would even consider this, but if there is a lot of people would criticize him for the double standard.

Talking to Suddeutsche Zeitung, Del Bosque said: "Guardiola is the best coach around at the moment, there is no doubt about it. He got a great education and has since only developed. In the past, we brought in coaches from abroad. Now our coaches are the ones moving abroad. We are proud of someone like Guardiola. We could never have imagined this a few years ago.

"I don't see any reason why Guardiola could not coach Spain. Of course, he is Catalan, but is it not our job to unify people? It would be great if football could help bringing Catalunya and the rest of the country closer again. He would probably not make as much money as Spain coach as he makes at a club, but I don't think that's important for people who have already made a lot of money."
