Diaz sends Morocco to AFCON quarter-finals

Brahim Diaz created history as the first Moroccan to score in four consecutive AFCON matches, netting a sixty-fourth-minute winner against Tanzania. This strike extended the hosts' unbeaten run in competitive and friendly matches to twenty-three. The breakthrough goal was assisted by Achraf Hakimi, making his first start since recovering from a serious ankle injury. Although Morocco missed the injured Azzedine Ounahi, who watched on crutches, they dominated before seventy thousand supporters.

The first half remained goalless after Ismael Saibari’s header was disallowed for offside and Ayoub El Kaabi missed several headers. Tanzania briefly threatened through Feisal Salum, but Morocco remained relentless. Hakimi struck the crossbar moments before setting up the winner. He passed to Diaz, who beat goalkeeper Hussein Masaranga at the near post. This victory validated Morocco's status as favorites, capitalizing on their massive ranking advantage to secure the last-16 win while maintaining their impressive momentum on home soil.
