Diego Alves defends Neymar from backlash

Brazilian forward Neymar has been lately scrutinized over his behavior in the past few matches, people have been giving him backlash for not being able to perform at the same level of competition he was before the Ballon d'Or award ceremony. Some people in the press believe that all the fuzz generated by the alleged meetings his people has been having with other clubs might be the reason for his alarming level drop, other are convinced that the parties he's been in Brazil and the constant trips are the main reason for his distraction.

After the Valencia match in La Liga last weekend, Neymar was reportedly involved in an altercation with some Valencia players who claimed he behaved in a violent manner. There is even some footage during the match where he appears to be yelling at teammate Jordi Alba for not passing him the ball, his reaction at such a desperate moment seems flat out rude and unbalanced. But given his young age this can be understood, but so much backlash is something that the Valencia goalkeeper doesn't understand.

Talking to Globoespote from Brazil, Alves defended Neymar."I think it is persecution, it happens with everyone, but for being Neymar, or Messi, they always create controversies. They are already used to this kind of situation." Neymar was normal. I talked to him before the game, [he was] very calm, no problem. I did not see what happened at the end of the game, I was giving an interview on the pitch. When it happens, everyone goes back to their home and it ends.

About his possible inclusion in the Brazilian national team, Alves said: "I cannot speak about it, because I may not even be called. It is up to the coach to decide if I will play or not. What I can do is train to my best and finish the season well, without injury. Last year I got to the last game, in the final 15 minutes, I had a knee injury that took me out of the Copa America. Now I will try to finish the season well and wait for the opportunity."
