Dunbeholden Football Club made it two wins on the trot after getting the better of Vere United 2-0 in Sunday's Red Stripe Premier League football match at Royal Lakes Complex in St Catherine.
Deanandre Thomas 
opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 39th minute before Dunbeholden got their second when Vere defender Alton Lewis conceded an own goal in the 83rd.
Victory lifted Dunbeholden into provisional fourth spot with six points from four matches. Vere, who have one win from four outings, have three points and are provisionally nestled 10th in the 12-team standing. Andrew Fraser, the Dunbeholden assistant coach, was relieved his team got on the scoresheet twice after prior struggles in front of goal.
“The difference today is that we scored — simple as that. We usually create a number of chances and not get the ball into the net, but today things went our way.
“In the first half we had most of the possession and we created chances. We came out flat in the second half and Vere came running at us, but we still got that second one in the second half,” he told the Jamaica Observer during a post-match interview on Sunday.
Vere Head Coach Michael Bennett said his team struggled to find fluidity, particularly in the first half.
“It was a very hard game in terms of us getting the ball into the attacking zone,” he told the Observer.
“In the first half, we were making too many turnovers in the middle of the field, and they were attacking us down the flanks. We made changes in the second half and we got a little bit more, but then the game got away from us when Dunbeholden got that second goal,” Bennett explained.
In overcast conditions on Sunday, Dunbeholden, showing more energy and attacking intent, held the slight edge throughout the first half. And the hosts took a deserved lead after nifty skills from Thomas won them a penalty with the half-time break approaching.
Thomas bamboozled Kirk Mullings inside the penalty box, with the Vere central defender responding by tugging back the attacker as he eased by him. Thomas got up to roll home the kick from 12 yards.
The second half was an even affair and brought far more end-to-end excitement as visitors Vere desperately sought a way back. However, Dunbeholden almost doubled the lead when substitute Rodave Murray shot wide after a mix-up between Vere goalkeeper Romaine Sampson and his defence.
Seconds later another substitute Shaquille Jones let fly with a left-footed effort that deflected onto the Vere crossbar. The resultant rebound was headed over by Thomas.
The hardworking Thomas played a part in the second after a blisteringly fast Dunbeholden counter-attack — in which they had a clear numerical advantage — ended with him unwisely shooting at goal from an acute angle instead of passing to an open teammate.
Luckily for Dunbeholden the ball ricocheted off the near post onto the body of retreating Vere player Lewis and into the net. Mere moments before the final whistle Vere's Michael Moreland fired a right-footer at goal, but his powerful effort was deflected wide of the target.
