Ghana is closing in on appointing a new head coach, with seasoned Portuguese managers Paulo Bento and Carlos Queiroz emerging as frontrunners. The vacancy follows Otto Addo’s dismissal after poor March friendlies, leaving the Black Stars with just over two months to stabilise before the 2026 World Cup. The GFA is targeting a short‑term hire to guide the team through the tournament before committing to a long‑term project.
Discussions with both candidates have been extensive, with officials impressed by their international pedigree. Bento previously led Portugal to the Euro 2012 semi‑finals and guided South Korea into the 2022 World Cup knockouts. Queiroz brings vast global experience, including spells with Iran, Portugal and Egypt, where he reached the 2021 AFCON final. Former Portugal coach Fernando Santos is also under consideration. A final decision is expected these hours, with Ghana set to face England, Croatia and Panama in Group L.
