Brazilian striker Alexandre Pato, had been in Chelsea for two months already, he had been preparing to play for that long period of time and struggling with his fitness. Although he had been called up for other matches he hadn't yet seen any action, but since the press conference before the Blues' match at Villa Park, manager Guus Hiddink had revealed that Pato would probably play this Saturday.
The opportunity he had been waiting for came early in the first half as Remy fell injured and gave Pato his shot, which he ceased in the best way possible. Since his start, Pato managed to fight for all the lost balls, and create danger in every play he was involved in. During the first half he was knocked down inside the box and he took the shot from the spot to score his first ever goal with the Blues. But the second half was reserved to become his complete playground and marked a great comeback for Pato in European Football.
He completed a top class play with Oscar that Spaniard Pedro finished, then before the final whistle he took a shot from a distance that Pedro tucked inside after a deflection from Aston Villa's goalkeeper. Out of the four goals Chelsea scored, Pato netted one and was directly involved in another two, not bad for a has been in football. It's now up to him to keep performing well so he gets more chances and convinces Chelsea to buy him by the end of the summer.
After the match, manager Guus Hiddink was buzzing over Pato's great performance: "It was not the toughest game in the Premier League but it was good to see [Pato] make his first step. The players saw Pato suffering with his fitness when he arrived, and were happy for him to get his goal. I think we started very well and killed the game off, defending well, pressing high and trying to get the goals. The game was over after the second goal I think."
Hiddink was also very happy with the rest of his players: "It's good to see guys like Loftus-Cheek, [Jake] Clarke-Salter and Miazga coming in. We cannot win anything, so it's a little easier. I like to bring in youngsters, we have the rest of the season. It's important they feel the Premier League demands. It's not that important for me [to be unbeaten], and with bringing young kids the risk of failure is a little higher. If we play as we did here, pressing high and creating chances, then automatically you get results and could play for Europe."
