If you want to go ahead and talk about one of the great Swedish players of all time, before Zlatan Ibrahimovic they had Henrik Larsson. Back in the far year of 1994, he surprised the world with his amazing talent and managed to go far in the World Cup. His signature dreadlocks were a fashion statement that only were rivaled by his immense talent, that talent brought him to play for some of the best teams in the world over a decade later as a star sub.
In 2006 he became a key player in Barcelona's 2006 championship, he had a stellar performance against Arsenal in that final. A year later he decided to play for a few months in Manchester United, but he then decided to leave the club, something he regrets to this day. Because the Red Devils were on the rise with a young Cristiano Ronaldo who was about to explode as the phenomenon he is today, Larsson missed all that.
Talking to Four Four Two, he said: “That’s the only regret I have in my career. I should have stayed, as it would have meant I got a Premier League winner’s medal, and I would have stayed for one more season. But I still had a contract with Helsingborgs and I feel that when you sign a contract, you have to see it out. Everything was professional at Manchester United. When I had to attend a christening for my brother’s children, the club ordered a plane to take me there after a match. United really take care of all their players.”
