Lille defeated a struggling Marseille 3-1 on Friday to take third place in the French league.
With the victory, Lille moved up to within one goal of second-place Brest and above Monaco on goal differential. Since September, it has not dropped a league game at home.
After 53 minutes, Jonathan David scored the first goal of the game from the penalty spot, bringing his season total to 15, second only to Kylian Mbappé in the Ligue 1 scoring standings. Rémy Cabella extended the lead to two goals, and in the 83rd, Gabriel Gudmundsson gave Marseille a chance after Ismaily's own goal had put Marseille ahead. It was Marseille's worst run of the season—their third straight league loss. Despite having a game in hand, the south coast team maintained its seventh-place standing, ahead of both Reims and Rennes on goal differential.
