Finnish icon Jari Litmanen is preparing an unlikely return to the pitch at age 55 after being officially registered for Tallinna Kalev’s third team. The former Ajax star, a Champions League winner in 1995 and one of Europe’s great playmakers of the 1990s, last played professionally in 2011 with HJK Helsinki, earning his only Finnish league title before retiring. Litmanen has lived in Tallinn for more than a decade and divides his time between the Estonian capital and Helsinki, where he works as a television pundit. His comeback follows an appearance last October, when he stepped in for Kalev’s fourth‑tier side alongside his teenage sons due to a shortage of players.
Club owner Ragnar Klavan confirmed the registration, which makes Kalev the tenth team of Litmanen’s storied career. Known as Kuningas, The King, he remains a revered figure, and his unexpected return adds another chapter to a remarkable football journey.
