The Manchester United player has given Gareth Southgate's team a much-needed lift ahead of their Tuesday, June 25th, match against Slovenia in Cologne. Due to a chronic hamstring injury, Shaw was unable to play for United from February until the conclusion of the season. Southgate acknowledged that selecting Shaw for England's Euro team carried some risk.
Shaw was not present for England's opening two group stage matches against Denmark and Serbia, and he is still seen as a serious doubt for Slovenia. If Shaw returns in the knockout rounds, it might be well-timed for the Three Lions, who struggled in their first two games despite leading Group C with four points, if England advances. In lieu of Shaw, Kieran Trippier has filled in at left back. Since Trippier is handicapped by his right foot and there isn't another established left-back in the team, Southgate is eager for the United player to return.
